John Gokongwei Jr. was only 30 years old when he made his first substantial donation to the Sacred Heart School, in his hometown of Cebu. Over the past three decades, the Gokongwei Brothers Foundation (GBF) has grown into one of the Philippines' leading private sector foundations dedicated to advancing quality education, with a strong focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
Beyond operating the GBF Technical Training Center in Calamba, Laguna, the Foundation has forged partnerships with leading educational institutions to support scholarships, faculty development, research, and the enhancement of learning facilities that foster STEM innovation. Recognizing that quality education begins with empowered educators, GBF also invests in teacher development through programs that strengthen both content mastery and effective classroom practice.

GBF is the largest shareholder in JG Summit Holdings, owning 27.88% of the conglomerate’s total outstanding shares. The two entities are inextricably linked, with each one greatly impacting the other.
